Sometimes I feel like my path towards Postpartum Doula work began 15 years ago in an Early Childhood Development Program.  Other times I think it was before that, during my tenure at a preschool, when I began to see how activities and interaction work together to help children grow.  Or it may have been my years of service as a nanny, working with families to give them that extra help in their hectic lives. In reality, it is very likely that all of these pursuits have built on each other and set me at the doorstep of postpartum work.  

My formal training includes a yearlong Midwifery course at Sag Femme in Santa Cruz, California (1995-96).  I am also a trained Labor Doula under Stacy Thompson at Nurture in Santa Cruz (1996).  I’m trained through Doulas of North America (DONA) as a Postpartum Doula (2006) and Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA) as a lactation educator (2007).  

And my personal experience includes both a Caesarean and two Vaginal Births After Cesarean (VBAC). I’ve experienced postpartum hemorrhaging and dealt with my own newborn’s health problems after a difficult birth. I have a deep understanding of a woman’s need for support during postpartum recovery, as well as the entire family’s need for help and guidance during this transformative time.
